Believe it or NOT I'm walking on AIR !!!!!

The TIME has come this weekend for all the HEROES to RACE !!!.

The Chap in the Pic is someone none of the current members would probably ever have heard anything about, but ask your parents !!! as they should know who he is.

A Teacher called "Ralph" who became a "superhero" in the 1980's but who never quite worked out how to use his powers or his special suit was the main character. Have a look !!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9Q3orQhEcA

The program was funny but as I have said to a lot of you over recent weeks, YOU need to find inside the HERO in you, when you RACE.

When you decide to race your RACE in a particular way, or take the risk on a new strategy, the MOST important thing is that you TRY it, COMMIT to it and then DELIVER it 100%. If it works thats great, if not, take stock of what you learned and TRY again.

Ralph aka "THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO" spent more time in the program trying to use his powers to FLY and never managed to do it consistently. But he kept on trying and kept on learning, EACH and EVERY day.

This weekend at SC Winter Championships -
  • FIND the HERO INSIDE !!!.
  • Take a RISK
  • COMMIT to the RACE
  • BE FANTASTIC
  • BE part of the TEAM
  • BE Skilfull, Technical and efficient
  • and most of all - HAVE some FUN !!!

GO TEAM TSC !!!!!!!!

FARRELL is FANTASTIC in British Masters to achieve Lifelong GOAL !!!!!

WELL DONE ANDY
BRITISH MASTERS CHAMPION 2008

At last weekends British Masters Championships Andy Farrell delivered 4 PB swims and a huge achievement for him to break the 2 Min barrier in his 200FC event.

His total results were
50 free – 25.05 PB / 6th
100 free – 54.66 PB / 6th
200 free – 1.59.95 PB / 1st
400 free – 4.25.45 / 2nd
100IM – 1.08.4 PB / 14th

Andy has continued to represent TEAM TSC in his swimming in the UK for the last 12 months and is in regular contact with us and the TEAM on how he is training.

His History in the 200FC at the British Masters is as follows
October 2005 - 6th - 2:05.0
October 2006 - 4th - 2:03.6
October 2007 - 2nd - 2:01.9
October 2008 - 1st - 1:59.95

30/34 Yrs Age Group
1. Andrew Farrell 30 - 1:59.95 (27.88, 30.34, 30.86, 30.87 / 58.22, 1:29.08)

For each and EVERY one of you training at the moment, Andy's advice is simple.
"Set yourself a target, make it important to you, and then commit to it daily"

Andy also commented - "sounds like the team had a good weekend in the pool? I managed 4 PBs out of 5 events. As you can imagine I was very pleased to finally crack 2minutes in the 200 free, it was a great feeling to see those magic numbers on the scoreboard next to my name. There is absolutely no way I’d achieved that kind of swim without the 18 months I spent with you and the TSC team, all the hard work in training, mentoring and practicing so I hope you feel like you’ve contributed significantly to getting me there"

WELL DONE ANDY - BRITISH MASTERS CHAMPION 2008 - TEAM TSC is proud of YOU!!

LEINSTER DISTANCE & GRADED Series #1 - A GREAT Success !!!

The Competition season started last weekend in the NAC with our first Distance & Graded Meet of the year.
The format remained the same as usual with the Distance meet being split Morning & Evening and the Graded meet in the middle of the day. All in all it was a hugely successful day for the Team with our more accomplished athletes, training twice on Saturday and racing on Sunday. The focus of the weekend was on racing well and pacing the events properly. Morning swims saw Eoin Mongey take on the 800FC for the first time whilst Dayna Clegg, Niamh Murphy & Grace Branagan raced in the last heat of the 400Fc with Katie Kelly, Jessica Tate, Naoise O'Driscoll, Niamh Bryson, Eva Martin, Michelle Larkin, Niamh O'Keeffe & Ciara Feighan, delivering strong swims in the earlier heats. In the PM Daire O'Driscoll, John Martin, Brian Feighan, Graham Field, Conor O'Keeffe & Eoin Mongey swam in the faster heats of the boys, whilst the younger boys Tiarnan Murphy, Conor Doyle, Luke Dillon, Oisin Phelan, Cilian Phelan, Jonah Clegg and Jack Higgins showed the way in their distance freestyle events with big PB's too. Tiarnan Murphy had a mammoth day of racing planned as he chose to race both meets and Saoirse Bryson took on some challenging events with a super swim in the 200BF. Michael Devitt swam a strong 200BS in a good PB and in the later afternoon Daniel McGrane-Maher added a good result in the 400FC to his earlier short swims.
In the middle of the day we saw a large team of our junior athletes compete in the Graded meet with many delivering multiple PB's throughout the afternoon. The Team showed how hard they have been working on Technique and skills as they delivered a MASSIVE 65PB's from just 79Swims. That's a TOTAL of 82% of all swims in the afternoon.
Sandra & Colm looked on as the athletes did themselves proud with all their hard work.
Many athletes will have delivered multiple PB swims in a short time, showing how they are getting fitter and technically more consistent with each competition they race.
A special mention to Jack Higgins on his 100% delivery of PB's in both the Distance & Graded meet over the day. Well done to him!!
Also a big congrats to Muirin Goulding, David Martinez-Dunn, Stephen Herlihy & David Rigg on their first Gala in the NAC and to ALL other athletes who swam so well on the day. Great family results too from sisters Rebecca & Jessica Burke, Katrin & Anastasia Kychygina and Rachel & Alex McGrane-Maher. The Bros' too were well represented with Eli & Daniel McGrane-Maher and Rory & Ciaran Fleming adding some great PB swims over the course of the day.
Our final siblings saw Caolifhinn & Cathal Tan join forces for the day with Eoin Feighan ensuring that as the youngest of the swimming Feighan's, he too delivered 100% PB's for the day.
Sharon Casey put together some excellent PB swims & led the way in her events as she combined with each of her team mates David Rigg, Muirin Goulding, David Martinez-Dunn & Stephen Herlihy to deliver some strong swims and some great results.
Well done to the TEAM on a job well done. The season has kicked off in style and it's important now to finalise some key targets for the next few months and get after them daily in training.
Just Remember
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellent therefore, is not an act, but a habit"

A TRULY OLYMPIC SUMMER for TEAM TSC - Part 3

Having set a standard in the two previous National Meets, Dayna Clegg & Grace Branagan headed to the British Age Group Championships in Sheffield while the rest of the Senior TEAM headed to the Nationals in the NAC.

Dayna had a heavily packed program competing in 6 events with Grace competing in 2. After some strong efforts in Heats Dayna finished 12th overall in the event for 12 year old girls. The points are awarded across ALL events swum and shows how her hard work this season has resulted in her having the flexibility to race multiple events in true Olympic fashion. From the distance 800FC, through the middle distance events at 400FC, which produced her best individual placing at 11th in the meet, Dayna showed strength of purpose and commitment in each and every swim, with PB's in the 200FC, 400FC and equal to PB in other swims to cap off this excelent year with a very strong set of results for her.
Grace was involved in her first meet at this standard and again delivered PB swims in both the 100FC (38th) and 100BC (24th) to round off her season with a further representation of her continued improvement this season.
Well done to both girls who represented themselves, the Club and their country with pride. Here's hoping that this experience will give both of the further desire to train harder and continue to work towards their goals in the future.
The Olympic Games were just about to start in Beijing, as the girls flew home. The Olympic Games is the culmination of the dreams of many athletes who work tirelessly and battle brave and train hard on a daily basis in for over an 8 or 10 year period to reach this standard.
As a TEAM, we are committed to supporting each athlete achieveing their highest potential. That's what's important to each and every TEAM member. Michael Phelps has achieved more in Beijing this year than EVER before, he has re-written the record books and it all started when little 6 yr old Michael went to the pool in Baltimore to watch his sister swim. It can be achieved, by someone in TEAM TSC. It IS possible to someone in this TEAM to be in LONDON in 2012. The Challenge and the journey starts on Sept 1st.
ENJOY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A TRULY OLYMPIC SUMMER for TEAM TSC - Part 2

AS our TEAM set the Standard in Limerick, The Americans finished their Olympic Trials as the Olympics draw closer, our TEAM headed to the Irish Age Group Championships in the NAC with confidence and anticipation as the hard work for the year would pay dividend for one and all.

We surprised the event with our "BIG HANDS" and one and all commented on how well we looked as a TEAM. The results for the competition were the best EVER in the Club's history.

Some 75% PB's saw the team deliver excellent racing and an extremely strong performance by the whole team. Alison O'Driscoll finished the meet with 7 Gold medals and 7 PB's (Sounds familiar does it !!!! ......). Dayna Clegg delivered 8 Second place finishes, also too to Niamh Bryson who delivered 7 Medals, incl. 1 Irish Age Group Title, Grace Branagan who also delivered 6 Medals & 2 Irish Age Group Titles. The commitment to training and ptting in the work this year has paid off for you and allows you the building blocks for the future.

The event too saw a huge result in some breakthrough swims for John Martin who delivered 2 Medals (silver and bronze) and to Katrin Kychygina who delivered a Silver place finish in her first Irish Age Group Championships. Have a look too at Anne-Marie Finn who yet again this year, showed just how to pace races to deliver the best result possible and to Graham Field, both Anne Marie & Graham delivered 5 Finals each and to Eva Martin and Ciara Feighan who also delivered final placings in tough events in their respective age Groups.

After a strong year and loads of PB’s, a big well done to Ciara Robinson who helped her team to two relay Gold medals and some strong swims herself, showing how all her hard work over the season has paid off. Well done too to Jonah Clegg who having competed in his first event had to withdraw due to injury.

Well done to one and all !!

A TRULY OLYMPIC SUMMER for TEAM TSC - Part 1

The Main Games were in Beijing but in late June the TEAM TSC Athletes who attended the Division 2 IRISH AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS were the first of our TEAM to deliver the first set of results in this outstanding sumer for Templeogue SC

The competition saw Tiarnan Murphy lead the first swim of the weekend with a massive PB in his 100BF to finish in 9th place. The second swim of the day saw the girls continue the onslaught on their PB's with Naoise O'Driscoll (3:10.68), Aoife Robinson (3:21.83) and Niamh Lyons (3:32.55) also demolish their existing PB's with well placed swims in the 200IM.

This was followed closely by a superb PB to produce a bronze Medal by Michelle Larkin (2:31.96), who continued the success with team mate Niamh O'Keeffe (2:37.38) also producing big PB's in their 200FC event. The younger girls returned to the pool with Naoise, Aoife & Niamh L competing again in the shorter 100FC in solid performances and good PB's with 1:16.18 from Naoise, and 1:21.47 and 1:21.54 for Aoife & Niamh L respectively.

Niamh O'Keeffe continued her weekend with a strong 100BF swim in a 1:34.42 swim whilst Tiarnan Murphy swam a well paced new PB also in the 200FC with a 2:31.55 effort. AS the weekend progressed Naoise O'Driscoll (1:26.59), Aoife Robinson (1:32.93) & Niamh Lyons (1:31.43) saw another set of PBs in the 100BC. Tiarnan finished the session with a 1:09.12 PB in his 100FC.

Michelle Larkin returned to the pool on the Sunday with a 5th place result in the 200IM in a 2:55.36 PB whilst Niamh O'Keeffe delivered another PB in a 3:06.72. Naoise continued her B run with a 1:45.08 swim in the 100BS whilst Aoife Robinson took a large PB in 1:45.88 as just reward for her hard work this year.

The last session of the weekend saw the most exciting swim with Michelle Larkin's 100FC leaving her Dad Padraig reduced to some unusual dance moves on poolside as she touched out a competitor who was faster in the heat to deliver her gold medal in an awesome 1:09.05, some 1.5 seconds faster than her heat swim. Well done Michelle and to Padraig "Michael Jackson" Larkin on the effort in that swim. Niamh O'Keeffe too can be proud of her improvements this year which were capped of by her highest place finish of the weekend and another excellent PB with a 1:11.98 swim in her 100FC.

Tiarnan Murphy continued his weekend with another PB swim in the 200IM with a 2:50.12 swim in his second highest place finish of the weekend. Our girls showed how strong their stroke skills have developed this year with Naoise (1:38.24), Aoife (1:45.12) and Niamh L (1:58.49) delivering 3 out of 3 in the 100BF. To complete the set of PB's Michelle Larking again delivered a great improvement from heats to finals with a 1:20.12 swim in the final of the 100BC for a bronze medal, whilst Niamh O'Keeffe delivered yet another PB in a 1:26.43 in her event also. Tiarnan's weekend came to a superb comclusion with a top 10 finish in his 100BC with a 1:16.99 swim, thus allowing us all to pat him on the back and congratulate him on how much he has improved this season.

The last session of the meet saw another great Heats to finals improvement by Michelle Larkin as she completed her 100BS in a 1:27.93 to finish just outside the top 3 in a race where all medallists went 1:27.?? so a really tight finish. Niamh O'Keeffe's 1:40.12 100BS saw her finish the season a happy lady as she recognised just how much of an improvement across a full range of events that she has made this season. Naoise O'Driscoll's final swim of the weekend saw her also deliver her final PB of the weekend in a 2:39.90 swim, whilst Aoife Robinson's 2:51.0 and Niamh Lyons 3:03.56 were also PB's.

This year's team was a small one wtih a number of other athletes unable to travel to the event. The team did themselves proud with PB after PB swim from each member across the strokes and the various events they competed in.

Our TEAM this season has shown real improvement in race skills and pacing and these athletes were the first of our National competitors to show just how far the TEAM have progressed this year.

Well done to Tiarnan, Michelle, Niamh, Naoise, Aoife & Niamh on a job well done. The Olympics in Beijing will see Phelps go for 8 Gold and 8 world records and these athletes delivered best ever PB swims on a par with the same level of focus and commitment to racing that Olympians do. Well done !!!!!

Callela - Success for the Lochtonians

4 Olympians were represented by 4 TEAMS from our travelling athletes and they fought a tight battle of wills to see who could finish as the TOP TEAM over the course of the trip.

The TEAMS were as follows

DE Manadouses - Dylan Farrell, Dayna Clegg, Conor O'Keeffe, Deirdre Murray, Cadhla Sweeney
DE Lochtonians - Ian Thom, Laura Martin, Eoin Mongey, Aoife Newe, Ciara Robinson
DE Hoffsters - Daire O'Driscoll, Finbar McTiernan, Gemma Houlihan, Niamh Murphy

CONGRATS to the Lochtonians on their WIN with an average over target result of 9% by the TEAM. Ciara Robinson delivered the best over target result on the TEAM with 11% over her weekly target. On the Phelpians, Laura Keely was the highest over target with 12% over her weekly target, Gemma Houlihan delivered 14% to be the highest on the Hoffsters and Dayna Clegg delivered a 12% over target result as highest on the Manadouses. Congrats again to the Lochtonians, you're representing RYAN LOCHTE as he wants and deserves to be represented this summer, a REAL Olympian and a WINNER. Phelps was on this occasion in second place - a place he may have to get used to after Beijing. Go on Ryan !!!!

DIVISION 2's - IRISH AGe GROUPs

BEST of luck to our IRISH AGE GROUP D2 competitors who will represent you all proudly in Limerick on the 27th & 28th June.

The TEAM of
Tiarnan Murphy,
Naoise O'Driscoll,
Michelle Larkin,
Niamh Lyons,
Niamh O'Keeffe
and Aoife Robinson
will do a good job I know in using this opportunity to get some season best times across their events. (Hard luck too to Luke Dillon who is unable to travel - Next year Luke !!)

Each and every one of you have raced really well this year. You've worked consistently, listened to your coaches and developed your strokes and your skills and as a result, you will race at this NATIONAL level competition in the University of Limerick.

Each and EVERY year this meet is a great occasion and a fantastic event. You'll enjoy the experience, all you have to do now is relax, smile and RACE with every last drop of control, power and speed in each muscle of your body to try and squeeze a little more out of your already impressive PB's this season.

GOOD luck to you ALL !!!!!

FARRELL & FAUL - PREPARING like CHAMPIONS !!!!

Just so that you don't think that we're only paddling up and down in TSC, your TEAM mates Andrew Farrell and Shane Faul continue their preparations for the Summer Nationals in the UK.

This weekend sees a lone figure of Andy F stand tall at the British MASTERS LC championships and race his favoured events to look to add to his current tally of IRISH records. Best of Luck to Andy who knows that training has been going really well for him and his LC preparation for the Summer Nationals in July is looking good. Race Well this weekend Champ !!!!

After finishing his summer exams in College, Shane Faul has been keeping in contact with me in recent weeks to let me know that he hopes that while Andy & he are training hard in UK, that our boys and girls back in TSP are doing an equally good job of getting prepared for the Summer AGE Groups, Youths & Open National Championships. Shane has been swimming some very very hard sets and working really well over the last few weeks both in the Gym and in the water to ensure that his attack on the Summer Nationals is a good one.

Keep up the Good work both of you and we will see you in June & July for racing and what not!!!

PORTMARNOCK & NAC LC - Great Results

TEAM TSC had a busy weekend last weekend with two meets in two pools in Dublin showing yet again that our athletes are ready to race regularly and do a good job.

For many at the Portmarnock Swim Club Gala in the Guinness Pool it was a great competition to end the season with and the competition proved tough on the day with lots of clubs using this meet as a chance to further watch how their athletes have progressed over the season. For TEAM TSC members, I have only had a chance to have a quick look at the results and saw a massive amount of PB's across the swims by our team. There were also a number of strong efforts from athletes in one of their first meets so well done to them all. Apologies I do not have details to hand but I will update the Blog over the coming weeks all the details.

At the NAC again this weekend, we saw our athletes race long course again, some of them looking for IAG D1 qualifying times and others just for practice and we also had some of our younger athletes race LC for the first time. The competition was a long day and unfortunately after a lot of waiting around the latter end finals could have been run a little more smoothly. Nonetheless, TEAM TSC did as the Portmarnock competitors did, they raced fast and did a good job with lots of PB's.

Well done to ALL who competed.

A Truly WOW!!!! - Weekend @ Leinster Age Groups 2008

WOW, WOW, WOW is all I can say to the TEAM TSC Team members who did themselves so proud last weekend at the Leinster Division 1 Age Group Championships.

On an ongoing basis our coaches try to focus athletes on "doing the right things" and last weekend saw just how far the younger swimmers on the TEAM have developed in their racing skills this year so far.

Warmups were delivered in a very focused yet relaxed way with each athlete knowing what they needed to do and also how to do it. Swimdowns were delivered, in the main, by every team member and within minutes of finishing races, the way it should be to ensure a better recovery. Well done too to those who remembered your water bottles throughout your swim down, that's why you were able to recover and swim the next event so well.

It was great to see our athletes have the confidence, mental strength and the endurance to stand up and race 3 to 4 events per session, which when translated to heats, finals and relays some of our athletes swam over 20 Times in the three days. If you remember at the recent World Championships Ryan Lochte, multiple world Record holder, swam 23 times in 5 days, whilst training through the meet, and he stood tall on the last day and raced a NEW world record. At the recent Santa Clara Invitational Meet in Florida, Michael Phelps raced 8 events over three days so heats and finals heading for 20 races. I hope you recognise and understand that this is what YOU did last weekend. YOU were doing as Olympians do, in this OLYMPIC YEAR. I knew your ATTITUDE would mirror that of people who want to perform at the highest level and as expected you delivered that. Well done TEAM TSC - YOU were fantastic!!! last weekend, FASTER in finals, TOUGHER and STRONGER as the weekend went on, FOCUSED on your SKILLS and your PACING and 100% committed to preparing well and delivering your very best. Having delivered this challenge, YOU just need to be BETTER and make sure YOU do IT EVERY TIME YOU RACE.

When it's TIME to RACE, TEAM TSC has the PACE !!!!
With 146 Top 8 finishes and Over 80 Top 3 results from the entire team. The number of PB's was the biggest number we have had in the history of the club at a single meet.

Some of the more noteable efforts were Niamh Murphy demolishing her own PB and a qualification standard for the 2012 TEAM in the process with a superb 1:00.94 100FC Swim, just reward for her dedication to training since the season start. Following suit with a tough schedule was Brian Feighan who completed an impressive 23 Swims over the course of the meet with Dayna Clegg finishing at 22 for the event also, Dayna's attention to her swim downs and ongoing hydration throughout the meet saw her deliver 20 swims of the 22 she did in the top 2 position in both heats and finals. Eva Barrett swam to an outstanding gold medal swim in the Girls U12 100BC with a monstrous PB and Katrin Kychygina, Ciara Feighan & Michelle Larkin also delivering their best results with making their first AG final. Jonah Clegg delivered two Gold Medal swims and Salim Sebaoui in only his second competition this year also delivered best in Age results.

All in all our U12 & U13 girls showed their collective strength with 6 out of 8 places in some of the U12 events going to TSC girls. Special mention in the U12's to Alison O'Driscoll and Niamh Bryson who between them finished 1 & 2 in 8 of the events in which they raced. Niamh's determination in the 400FC produced a huge PB for her and a gold medal and showed just how far her FC has improved this year as ALL of her FC events showed massive PB's. Her more favoured Breastroke results stood out too as she collected big results in those swims. Alison notched up best in age results across her events and swam to take top of the podium on no more than 7 occasions. Again Alison's attention to skills and increased training over this season has allowed her convert to racing multiple events and delivering consistently. We also saw Eva Martin collect two bronze medals, 5 top 5 finishes and consistent PB's also. Martha O'Donoghue produced Irish Age Group qualifying times as she won her first medal at the Leinster AG champs with a bronze in the 200IM, not to mention her 4th place finishes in the 400 & 800 and 6th places in the shorter FC events. Ciara Feighan demolished each of her PB's and was rewarded with her first Leinster AG final in the 200FC but also finished 5th in the 800 and 6th in the 400 FC events. Katrin Kychygina also produced the goods in her favoured Backcrawl events with a double silver performance in the 100 & 200 accompanied by some top 8 results in the FC events. Our Younger athletes Saoirse Bryson (10), Aoife Robinson (11) and Anastacia Kychygina (10), picked up valuable experience and a large BIG box of PB swims in each of their events.

In the 13 Yr old girls Naoise O'Driscoll & Niamh O'Keeffe continued the trend with MASSIVE PB's in their events and some well paced and controlled swims in racing new LC events for them. Well done girls. Michelle Larkin showed her form with an impressive 6th place in the 200 Breastroke, her first AG final and a suite of PB swims across her additional events. Niamh, Naoise & Michelle now get organised for the Irish Age Group Division 2 Championships in Limerick in the next two weeks. The girls performances at the Leinster AG's last weekend will ensure that they are very much ready to race to even better results in Limerick. Best of luck girls on your final few weeks of preparation.

Ciara Robinson saw how far she has improved this year with an impressive bronze medal in her now favoured!! 100BF event whilst collecting 4th in the 100FC, showing her endurance in the longer events with top 8 finishes and her versatility through collecting PB's and additional top 8 placings in the IM and Backcrawl events.

Some of our more experienced 13Yr old girls also showed that they too have continued to work hard with AnnMarie Finn producing bronze medal swims in the 400FC, two additional top 4 and top 5 positions and ALL 8 of her results producing top 8 finishes. Grace Branagan & Dayna Clegg produced 21 and 22 swims respectively with individual heats, finals and relays and showed their tough competitive streak as they raced to strong results across all events they competed. Grace, chasing qualification for British Age groups produced some close to PB results in her more favoured 100 & 200 events and a really superb swim in the 200FC and the 400FC showing her that the work done this year is without question improving her endurance events. Improvements in pacing and control also saw Grace deliver consistently in her finals. Dayna's extensive work on developing her skills and considerable improvement in training volume this season paid off with allowing her deliver her most impressive results to date with consistent heat swim times within marginal %'s of her PB's and then subsequent improvement on those times in all but one of her finals. This is the way to RACE. Dayna proved that PB's can be achieved, even when racing a heavily packed programme, by ensuring you stay focused on your skills in the race, swim down afterwards and stay hydrated and fed for the duration of the competition.

Our older girls also saw some great action with Deirdre Murray, Lisa Meehan & Gemma Houlihan ALL qualifying for finals in their respective favoured events. Laura Martin, carrying an injury swam close to her best and to a 5th place finish in the 100BC but was a little outside her PB's and unfortunately having qualified for a final had to withdraw with the injury causing her more concern than was originally expected. Deirdre came back in the PM to race to a new PB in the 100FC and a 5th place result and was delighted with her efforts as it was the fastest swim she has had all season and was right back to her best time. Lisa made two finals in the 100BC & 200IM finishing 5th in the 200IM with a strong new PB. Gemma Houlihan also posted her best time this season in the 100BF to finish in 6th place at this year's meet. Well done girls who also raced the 4 x 100MTR on day one of the meet and finished in 4th place also.

Niamh Murphy rounded out our girls efforts with a swim in the 100FC that is inside the TEAM 2012 qualifying standard and allows her get to achieve a large part of her target for the year. She powered home to a time of 1:00.94 after a heat swim of 1:02.03, thus ensuring that she has never swum a 1:01.?? 100FC ever and now has a real opportunity to cntinue that progression for 2012 QT's. Learning at each and every meet, Niamh also delivered gold medal placing in the 100BS and a bronze in the 200IM on the same day. A real confidence boost was Niamh's PB swim and a bronze medal in the 400FC which will give her the belief she needs to know that she is fit enough as well as strong enough to race an equally impressive 200FC over the summer meets. Having worked extensively on improving her breastroke this season Niamh was happy to deliver a silver in her 200BS. finally Niamh raced a new event for her with a 5th place result in the 100BF, showing that it's good to try a new one once in a while. Having qualified fastest for the OPEN 50FC, Niamh finished her weekend of racing in the silver medal position on the pure sprint event but having delivered a large new PB in a time of 28.26.

After day one and with over 65 Top 8 results the team grew in confidence and continued to develop and our boys played a equally important role in getting us to the 146 top 8 finishes.

Jonah Clegg may have been our youngest male competitor but delivered superb performances all weekend as he raced himself in to two Leinster titles, a full year out of his age as an 11yr old racing Under 12. Jonah's Gold medal swims were in 200BS and 100BC and with excellent efforts too in the 200IM, 100BS and 400FC with bronze medals in each of these events. Just to complete his collection Jonah also finished 2nd in the 200BC. Many of Jonah's swims qualify him for Division 1 Irish Age Groups. Well done Jonah. Cathal Dunne and Tiarnan Murphy also kept our boys in the hunt for results with superb PB swims from both of them to finish in top top 15 and top 12 positions in their best events. Our slightly older boys had really stepped up to the mark at this meet with John Martin (U14) racing to his first sub 60 second 100FC and a bronze medal in the same event. John swam to TOP 5 in EVERY event he swam in but capped off his efforts this weekend with a Bronze medal and a 100% set of PB swims. Eoin Mongey (U15) too showed his form this year with a full set of PB swims in each and every event for him. Eoin swam to top 15 results in 4 of his 5 swims but was delighted that his impressive result in a relatively new event for him, the 400FC, will give him the confidence needed to continue to take another BIG step forward with his racing over the coming weeks. Well done Eoin. Brian Feighan continued the charge for our 15 yr old boys with over 23 swims, the largest of the TEAM this weekend and continued to deliver PB after PB in many of his events. Brian's love of the 1500FC proved to be well worthwhile as he delivered his first Leinster Age Group title in that event in his age. Brian also delivered a bronze medal in the 200FC and a number of 4th place results in 200BF, 200BC and the 100 and 400FC. These impressive results in a heavy programme of competition will reinforce for Brian that all his efforts on both technique and skills as well as a good hard graft in training on some excellent sets is all paying off for him. Brian too showed he was prepared to take a few new events under his belt as he raced the 200BS for the first time in a long course event.

Skills are where it all counts and Conor O'Keeffe (15) has worked harder than many this year on developing and improving his skills. He has also put up with me chirping in his ear daily about how important skills are!!! and that isn't easy!! lol. After a tough first few meets of the season Conor saw every last ounce of effort in training be returned to him in huge improvements across EVERY event he swam in. Well done Conor on staying dedicated to not only working hard but also for doing something daily on improving your skills. It's all paying off. Now you need to keep it going. Conor made a final in each event he entered capping it all with a Bronze medal in the 200BC, but also delivering 4th in the 100BC, 5th in the 100FC and 6th in 200BS.

In the under 16 age group Daire O'Driscoll & Dylan Farrell were joined by Salim Sebaoui as they set about tackling their age Group. Two days before his Junior Cert starts, (hint!! hint!! to ALL!!!! that it is possible to have yourself organised to train, race and study - not to mention go to the odd concert aswell, but only allowed if they're good bands!!! lol), Daire got on with the job by delivering strong results in his 1500FC event, winning it again for the second time. Coupled with his wins and PB's in the 100FC, 200FC, 400FC and 200BF and a bronze in the 100BF, I thnk Daire will find the Junior cert an easy enough option. Well done Daire on the swims and staying in training and managing exams etc. but do something about the music man !!!! Dylan Farrell continued his return to form this year as he delivered Silver medals in the 200FC, 400FC and 100BS and also 3rd in the 100BC and 4th in the 100BC and 200IM. Great news Dylan to see you back on form and we'll keep putting the finishing touches to your strokes in training to help you continue this improvement over the next few months. Salim Sebaoui, who has been really getting after training since he joined the club just before Christmas, became a Leinster Age Group champion in the 200IM and 100BC whilst delivering huge PB improvements in his other events to finish 4th in the 200FC and 6th in the 50BS. Demonstrating that we have had a super meet across a multitude of ages was Finbar McTiernan who also swam strong results with his performances for two silver medals in his favoured Backcrawl sprint events. Finbar has been nursing a slight injury and is steadily improving but the performances form last weekend will give him added focus and encourage the continued improvement for end of year performance at Nationals in July.

Overall, this competition has shown the entire TEAM that we are improving as a TEAM and that your hard work and dedication to developing your skills is paying off. WELL done one and All!!

Life Begins @ .......... - A Lesson for all the Young Swimmers - SUCCESS sometimes takes a LONG TIME and comes after lots of WORK

Andy Farrell continues record breaking form

Templeogue swimmer Andy Farrell broke 4 Irish Masters records at the Scottish National Masters Championships in Glasgow last weekend, Farrell's National Masters record tally now stands at 15 records all set within the last 12 months.

Andy started his record breaking weekend in the very first event of the competition, the 800m freestyle, taking 25 seconds off the previous standard with a time of 9m.22s. Andy then found himself immediately back in the water for the 2nd event of the competition, the gruelling 400m Individual Medley. Despite competing in the event for the first time ever in nearly 20 years of competitive swimming Andy successfully negotiated all four strokes to finish in a time of 5m25s a whole 31s under the previous record.

Having taken a well earned rest overnight, Andy return to the pool the following day to continue his record onslaught. Breaking the long standing 200m freestyle record by the narrowest of margins, one one hundredth of a second, Andy won the event in 2m.01.5s. Completed his sweep of records Andy took the 400m freestyle in a time of 4m22.7, shaving 1.3s off the old record.

Not resting on his laurels Andy heads to Manchester to the British Masters Long Course Championships in June where he will be attempting to add the 1500m freestyle record to his roll of honour as well as improve on the 200m freestyle record he already holds.

NB to ALL TSC SWIMMERS

ANDY was like most of you as an age group swimmer, a talented and promising athlete who worked solidly and saw reasonable progression in his swimming. No big WOW results but consistently worked in the sport he loved. His dedication to continue training has seen a massive improvment in the last 2 seasons, hopefully some of the improvement he attributes to training in TEAM TSC, with YOU, His TEAM mates and your TEAM mates. In the last year, Andy has had a busy time too, he got married, he runs his own company and manages to successfully commit to training and stay enthusiastic about this wonderful sport. As his coach for the last while, I admire him for his positive outlook, his ability to challenge himself and others and to set some demanding targets. One of his most recent results, which is not listed above is the achievement of what he calls "his Lifetime Ambition" - to break 55 Seconds for a 100FC. Andy has also delivered this target in the last few months. His response to me was "Well that's that one done, Now I just have to go sub 54 and I now know I can go Sub 2.00 for the 200FC, Watch this space !!!"

What I'd like you all to learn from Andy is how to, even with a busy schedule, a family, a business to run and a hectic and full daily routine, Andy has set himself some challenging goals, surrounded himself with positive people (i.e. YOU and all of YOU in TEAM TSC) to help him work towards his targets and he stays motivated on his goals and focused on them daily. Well done ANDY on your well deserved results and thank you for your ongoing support of OUR TEAM, YOUR TEAM in IRELAND.

All the best and we'll see you at Irish LC Nationals during the summer back swimming for TEAM TSC.

TEAM TSC PB's @ David Mc Cullagh Memorial Gala

Two weeks ago the TEAM travelled to the first of the IRISH selection meets of the year, the David McCullagh Memorial Meet in UL in Limerick. This meet has important significance for the team and for the Templeogue Swim Club as Dave McCullagh was the Head coach in TEAM TSC for over 20yrs and the first Swim Ireland Director of Swimming and an inspirational and visionary figure in Irish swimming.

The club was delighted to send it's largest team in a few years to this meet with 17 swimmers competing and also one of the youngest teams in the last few years on show as the clubs developing Age Group athletes teamed up with the older members of the squad who have kept on training hard to qualify for this level of competition.

Day one of the meet saw Shane Faul (left)return from Coventry rested and tapered to deliver his best results of the season so far. The team were not disappointed as Shane raced the 400IM the first Heat declared winner event of the weekend in a new 9second PB in a time of 4:44.11 to deliver himself a bronze medal. Followed closely in the next event our girls continued to show how well the team is swimming with Dayna Clegg delivering a 17 second PB to finish in 11th place in a time of 9:52.24, the fastest time for a 13yr old in the competition. Not to be outdone Grace Branagan also delivered a new 6second PB of 10:10.62 and Anne Marie Finn finished a trio of PB's for the TEAM with a 21 second PB in a time of 10:36.45. The Friday session finished with the mens and womens 50BC with Finbar McTeirnan and Dylan Farrell competing with the team in the mens and Grace Branagan swimming for the girls. With strong swims but only McTeirnan qualifying for the semi finals.

Saturday morning dawned and saw another strong day for the team as event 1 saw the PB's continue as Grace Branagan swama 3 Second PB (2:36.21) to qualify for the B Final and, Dayna Clegg was (left) fractionally outside her best with a time of 2:37. Finbar McTeirnan carried the TEAM hopes in the mens event but was quite a bit off his best in the heats. Niamh Murphy was next to the blocks in one of her favoured events but finished a little outside her best int he 200BS. Shane Faul took to the start again and delivered himself a new PB in the heats (2:16.) and a better resul in the final to earn himself a 5th place result and taking over 4 seconds off his previous best time. Niamh Murphy swam strongly inside her PB in the womens 50FC to qualify for the B final and further improve on her best time to finish the meet in a new PB time of 28.79. Grace Branagan also delivered a strong sprint swim with a time of 30.12 and Emma Crossan swam to a super new PB of 30.47. AnneMarie Finn also showed her pace with over half a second improvement on her best to finish in 31.31. A large compliment of the boys made the mens Sprint event very competitive for the TEAM TSC men and after the event Dylan Farrell finished top of the pile with a new PB of 27.52, closlely followed by Daire O'Driscoll in a 27.55. After demonstrating his rapid improvement this year John Martin produced a blistering pace swim to take 0.89 off his best in a new PB time of 27.95 to edge out the older boys of Finbarr McTeirnan (28.20) and Cian Murphy (28.26) who wil take note of the young pretender's aspirations as one of the fastest men in the TEAM.

Shane Faul retuend to the block with a strong heat swim to allow him place the final of the 100BS in a time of 1:11.76 to place him a little outside his best but pleased with his efforts. Dayna Clegg, Niamh Murphy & Grace Branagan (below right)also delivered three super new PB's with 2:19..92, 2:20.58 and 2:21.68 to deliver 2 and 3 second PB's for each of them. AnneMarie Finn (right, on left) & Emma Crossan also delivered best times with 2:26.0 and 2:27.50 respectively whilst Laura Martin finished just off her best time with her effort. In the mens 50BF, Cian Murphy took a well earned best in TEAM place with a new PB of 29.32 PB almost 1 second inside his previous best and ahead of Finbarr McTeirnan, Daire O'Driscoll and John MArtin with McTeirnan and Martin also delivering PB's in their respective swims.

Faul's good form continued as he swam to a NEW PB of 4:13.95 to claim 6th place in the 400FC some 14 seconds inside his previous best time. Daire O'Driscoll was just outside his best with his effort and Brian Feighan delivered another fine PB swim fort the TEAM with a 3 second improvement in 4:43.85 and Dylan Farrell also delivering a strong effort in a relatively new event for him the 400FC. O'Driscoll and Feighan teamed up again in the distance event with Feighan delivering a massive improvement with a 13 second PB proving lucky for him.

Grace Branagan teamed up with her team mates Dayna Clegg and Amy McSherry again in the 100BC with Branagan progressing to the B Final and posting some strong swims. In the mens event McTeirnan, although not feeling well, swam strongly to qualify for the B Final but had to withdraw due to not feeling well. Dylan Farrell & Liam O'Neill both swam new best times in their respective efforts.

Dayna Clegg and Niamh Murphy (right) continued to race hard with their efforts in the 200IM outside their previous best times. While Shane Faul made the final of the 200BS he swam a steady effort in the final to keep himself focused on his efforts in the 200FC event. Murphy showed a return to best form with a PB swim and a time that qualified her in top 8 position for the Womens 100FC. Her new PB of 1:02.33, a fracrtion inside her previous best. Grace Branagan, Helen Kelly and Amy MCSherry also raced but were a little shy of their PB's in the heats and didn;t progress to finals. Emma Crossan was well inside her PB with a 0.7 second improvement while Anne Marie Finn and Laura Martin too finished their weekend efforts with another solid swim in the 100FC.

The boys again went head to head in the Sprint 100FC with Dylan Farrell being the one who's new PB of 59.94 winning the TEAM's fastest result at the meet. John Martin, again with a massive 2 second best time to finish just outside the 1 minute barrier in a time of 1:00.05, O'Driscoll next in 1:00.13, Liam O'Neill with a PB of 1:00.35 and Cian Murphy well inside his PB with a 1:01.47. Finbarr McTeirnan also swam but being sick registered a result off his best.

The TEAM'S final medal of the weekend saw Shane Faul deliver a superb 1:58.95 effort in the 200FC to deliver another big PB with over 3 seconds inside his best time. The other Boys also saw strong results with O'Driscoll (2:12.84), O'Neill (2:14.01), Feighan (2:16.8), Farrell (2:16.9) and Martin (2:19.8) all a little further outside their best.

Niamh Murphy made another B Final having finished her weekend with a solid swim in the 100 BS, one of her better events. The womens events were finsihed with Dayna Clegg delivering another strong PB of 4:50.59, almost 2 seconds inside her best. Grace Branagan (5:01), Anne Marie, Emma Crossan and LAura Martin also delivered solid swims in their respective swims.

All in all the meet was a great benchmark of where the team is in their preparations for the Irish National LC championships in the MAy BH Weekend.

Well done TEAM and keep up the good work.

FAUL takes GOLD in BIRMINGHAM

ALL things are good in Coventry today as SHANE FAUL wakes up this morning with an even bigger smile on his face as he reflects on his performances from EASTER weekend at a competition in Birmingham.

It's the CITY of BIRMINGHAM OPEN and Shane took gold in an enthralling race as he touched home in a NEW PB swim of 2:09.66 some 4 seconds inside his bronze medal winning time from Irish Nationals in July. After a strong result in the heats to qualify in 3rd fastest from the heats, SHANE went for gold in the final to out-touch his team mate by .3 of a second to take gold in this, one of his favourite events.

NB to one and all - Shane proves again that in a tight race for the finish YOU have just got to be the ONE who GETS TO THE WALL first and WINS the race for yourself.

Well done SHANE - All the hard work is paying off now. Shane joins the TEAM at the Dave McCullagh meet on Friday in Limerick.

TEAM TSC MASTERS bring home 20 GOLD at IRISH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

By
ANDY FARRELL, 11 x IRISH MASTERS RECORD HOLDER

The National Arena at Limerick was the Venue for the Irish Masters Long Course open Championships this weekend, and once again the Templeogue Men were in record breaking form in both individual and relay team events.

The first event of the day was the mixed 400m freestyle which saw TSC swimmers Ian Thom (18-24yrs age group) and Andrew Farrell (30-34 yrs age group), already national record holders in their respective age groups for this event, spear heading the fastest heat. With a long day of swimming ahead both men put in solid performances to win their age groups comfortably, with Ian improving his own national record by 1 second to 4min32 and Andy 4 seconds off his own record with a time of 4min38.

Next event was the 50m Backstroke with 50m specialist Brian Lee (25-29yrs age group) joining Ian Thom in the fastest heat of the event. Maintaining the team’s 100% record both men scored wins in their age group, with the teams tally of golds at 4 after only 2 events.

Peter Sherry (25-29yrs age group) was next up in the 200m Individual Medley, Peter an expert on all 4 strokes won his age group by some distance in a time of 2min29s.

Event 4 saw 50m specialist Brian Lee score his 2 gold of the morning in the 50m Butterfly, utilising his tremendous underwater skills powering home in an impressive 28.2 seconds

Next up was the 200m freestyle which once again saw Templeogue Freestyle specialists Ian Thom and Andy Farrell head the fastest heat. In a much closer race than the earlier 400m event Andy pushed Ian (ten years his junior) all way with Ian winning his age group in a time of 2.06 and Andy finishing just behind Ian to win his age group in a time of 2.07 improving the national record he set last month by just over a second.

Peter Sherry was next to swim in the 100m butterfly. Peter, an expert on all 4 strokes, won the fly event comfortably in a time 1min04. No sooner was Peter out of the water and towelled off from his butterfly, Peter was back in the water for the 100m Breaststroke. Demonstrating his fitness and ability on all 4 strokes Peter demolished the field to win his age group in a time of 1min20.

The morning session ended with the medley relay event. The current Irish record for the Mens relay stood at 2.07.5 for the last 5 years, the Templeogue Team knew a good start was key if they were to stand a chance of setting a new record. Ian Thom had the responsibility of getting the team started with the first leg on backstroke, with a brilliant start Ian set a new record for 50m backstroke in his age group with a time of 30.5. Peter Sherry continued the charge on the breaststroke leg, with the boys splitting the race at 1.06 at the halfway stage the pressure was on the anchor men to bring it home. 50m specialist Brian Lee once again demonstrated his sprint prowess on the butterfly leg with a super quick time of 27.9. It was then over to Senior team member and anchorman Andy Farrell to bring the team home on the Freestyle leg. Breathing only twice over the 50m distance Andy kept his cool to bring the team home and smash the old record by over 5 seconds with a time of 2.01.34.

First event of the afternoon was the 100m freestyle which once again saw Andy and Ian continue their dominance of the freestyle events, both Men scoring golds in their age groups in times of 57.2 and 59.2. Ian was straight back into the water for 200m Backstroke, showing his endurance prowess Ian won the event in a time of 2minutes28 seconds setting a new Irish Master Record in the 18-24yrs age group. 50m specialist Brian Lee had entered the 50m Breaststroke, however Brian decided to focus his efforts and energies on the team events coming up later and unselfishly ducked out of this one length killer. Well done Brian. Having already won the 50m and 200m Backstroke events Ian Thom was back on his back for the 100m backstroke. In a time of 1min08 Ian completed the set of backstroke golds winning his age group once again.

Event 17 of the day was the 200m Butterfly- 4 lengths of an Olympic sized pool is a gruelling physical challenge in any gala, but given the team had by this stage been at the pool for nearly 10 hours and raced collectively over 3000m this was not a race for the faint hearted. Templeogue’s Iron men Peter Sherry and Andy Farrell stepped up to head the final and fastest heat of the event. In a heroic display both men powered home to win their respective age groups Peter in 2min28 and Andy 2.34.0 - a new Irish Masters Record in the 30-34yrs age group, a remarkable feat for a man of his age.

No sooner had Andy towelled off from the 200 fly he was joining his team mates Ian Thom and 50m specialist Brian Lee in the final heat of the last individual event of the day, the 50m Freestyle. Once again Ian demonstrated why he is Leinster skins champion on this event with a tremendous time of 25seconds to win his 7th individual gold of the day! 50m specialist Brian Lee in a time of 26s also claimed a gold medal in his age group. However for the first time in the day a TSC swimmer didn’t win a gold medal in an event, senior team member and captain Andy Farrell finished 4th in the 30-24yrs age group with a time of 27.5 in what turned out to be a surprisingly competitive event. Asked about this aberration, Andy just pointed to his arms and said he was saving the guns for the team relay record attempt coming up shortly.

And so after almost 12 hours poolside the final event of the day rolled around, the Mens 200m Freestyle relay. The current record stood at 1min54sec held by Aer Lingus Masters. The Team TSC men were to go in heat 2, and watched as in heat 1 Kingdom Masters shaved a just under 1 second off the Aer Lingus record. As the Kingdom boys celebrated and high fived their new national time the Templeogue men focussed on their now harder task. Lead off by Ian Thom in a time of 25.2 the record looked to be a distinct possibility. 2nd was senior team member and Captain Andy Farrell who had saved himself in his individual freestyle 50 to ensure he could give 110% for his team. Swimming a split of 26 his gamble had paid off, with the record looking certain to be smashed. As Peter Sherry took over for the 3rd leg Kingdom Masters celebrations came to an abrupt halt as they watched the Templeogue man power down the pool in a smoking 28.0. Anchoring the team home was 50m specialist Brian Lee who touched the team home in a time of 1min47.34 to smash the Irish record sec in the previous heat by over 6 seconds!!

By the end of the day the boys had clocked up over 4000m in races, 20 individual gold medals, 2 relay wins, 6 individual Irish Masters Records and 2 Team Irish Masters records. Oh and one 4th place. A job well done by the lads, who afterwards enjoyed a much deserved Malt from the Limerick branch of Eddie Rockets

TEAM TSC deliver superb results at Trojan Gala

Yet again this season our TEAM delivered consistently strong swims and technically and tactically good races over the course of the weekend.

After a weekend where many athletes swam a number of events it was great to see our athletes continue to understand the benefits in developing the technical and tactical aspects of their races. One of the most impressive things I have seen this year to date is that as a TEAM, our swimmers are now learning how to race their races in the most skillful way and also understand how to pace the races of 200M and above. The skills developed in training are the most important aspect of improving your times. As you develop your skills with increasing training volumes and speed, your transfer to racing will get better and better.

You need to continuously develop your skills and be aware when you are tired in training that concentration on technique and skills are the most important elements of what you do EVERY STROKE, EVERY LENGTH, EVERY SET, EVERY SESSION, EVERY DAY. Set yourself a SKILLS target in training,
  • Focus on NO BREATHING off your pushoffs in to break out strokes,
  • Make your TURNS, your opportunity for ADVANTAGE because they are better, faster and more streamlined than EVERYONE else.
  • COUNT your strokes on KEY sets,
  • Develop SPEED without increasing strokes per length
  • BE FASTER and stronger on UNDERWATER FLY kick on ALL your push-offs,
  • GET to 6M, then 7M, then 8M underwater and learn how to build it up to 10M and then to the OLYMPIC 15M mark - where WORLD RECORD HOLDERS get to !!!!!.
  • Remind yourself of the need for GREAT LEGS on ALL strokes

Results for the weekend will follow on the web but well done to ALL swimmers in the TEAM who delivered PB's and excellent swims over the weekend.

A Big THANK YOU to EVERYONE responsible to make this happen. It's a great representation of our Club, YOUR club.

THOMS HAT-TRICK at LEINSTER OPEN Championships shows the way for GREAT TEAM TSC Performance

Templeogue Swimmer Ian Thom (left)continued his rich vein of form with three impressive results at the recent Leinster OPEN Long Course Championships in the NAC. Ian has had an impressive start to the season winning the 50FC in the Leinster SC Championships prior to Christmas and also medalling in both the 100M and 200M event also.

His continued form saw him place in the silver medal position in the Sprint and middle distance event at last weekends Leinster Long Course championships with an additional 4th place inish in the 100M event also.

Not happy with that Ian and his Templeogue Swim Club Team mates also went on to claim two bronze medal results in the relay events. Thom teamed up in the distance Freestyle Relay with Daire O’Driscoll, Liam O’Neill and Finbar McTiernan to finish in the bronze medal position and also went on to claim the same bronze medal result in the sprint freestyle relay with O’Driscoll, Thom & McTiernan teaming up with Dylan Farrell to pull out the results in that event.

As a TEAM the Templeogue TEAM had 4 members in the semi-finals and finals of both the mens and womens 100FC and showed that the depth in the squad contonues to impress as they had the largest individual team size of any Leinster club a the meet. Juniors Dayna Clegg and Grace Branagan made top 8 finishes with Clegg twice finishing in 4th place, which for a 12 year old is impressive result in what are Open Womens events. Finbar McTiernan was the other medallist for Templeogue as he placed in the Sprint backcrawl events to claim his first Leinster Regional Medal with a 3rd place result. Big improvements from Brian Feighan, Liam O’Neill and John Martin were testament to the work the team is putting in, whereas Daire O’Driscoll’s continued improvement saw him deliver a 4th place finish in a less than favoured event for him, the tough 200BF. Conor O’Keeffe and Eoin Mongey too showed good form as did a fully fit Cian Murphy who just missed out on a semi-final in the sprint BF event.

Templeogue Girls Niamh Murphy & Amy McSherry also made a number of finals and demonstrated season best form in many of their events. Allied to the performances of the more experienced athletes, the Templeogue TEAM saw first timers Saoirse Forde-Morrin, Martha O’Donoghue and Eva Martin show just how strong the team is as they and their other young team members, Alison O’Driscoll, Anne-Marie Finn, Niamh Bryson and Ciara Robinson swam to semi-final placings and big best times in their events. The other girls on the team Aoife Newe, Gemma Houlihan, Laura Martin and Emma Crossan also delivered solid performances and seaons's best efforts in their events, in their first LC meet this year.

Thom now joins his Masters Team Mates Andrew Farrell (left), and coaches Peter Sherry & Brian Lee as they travel to the Irish Masters Championships in Limerick this weekend and yet again attack the Irish records which they demolished last year.
Between these four men in 2007 they rewrote Irish Master records with some 18 new records for the books and already this year Farrell has set 3 so far. The principal record attempts this weekend are the relay records as Templeogue do not currently hold any of them and these men are out to prove that the TEAM strength is definitely their greatest asset.

Well done and best of luck to them. 2008 is looking good for TEAM TSC.

Shane is No FALL guy

Shane Faul (left), this 17 yr old Templeogue swimmer made a big move in September 2007 last with a move to the UK to the City of Coventry University to pursue both his academic and sporting ambitions.

Winner of the 2007 Irish Age Group championships in the 400IM and a regular performer at National and Regional level Shane’s promise as a swimmer has never been in question.

In December 2006 mid-way through his Leaving Cert year Shane made a bold decision to move clubs and joined Templeogue Swim Club to try and move his performances to another level.

Having completed his studies Shane’s ambition was to consider a move to one of the large universities in the UK where there were strong Swimming Teams. Having joined Coventry University Swim team in October he left his club colleagues in Templeogue, Moved over to the UK and started in to a tough regime of Long course training with double sessions daily since Sepember. With a brief trip home for Christmas Shane’s dedication to training and realising his dreams took a big step forward over the last few weekends.

Shane competed in the British Universities Swimming Association Championships in Sheffield and realised two lifetime best times to finish in 14th place in the 200FC (which would have finished 3rd behind Templeogue team mate Ian Thom at the Leinster Open Championships last weekend) and 10th in the 400FC in a time which would have allowed him finish 3rd also in the Leinster Championships. These are strong indicators that when fully rested and prepared for the upcoming Irish Selection meets in Limerick in March and back in the NAC in May, Shane’s ambitions to qualify for Irish TEAM selection will get an opportunity to be realised.

Given he is only in first year in college in the UK and some 2 to 3 years younger than most of his current Coventry Team Mates his improvement in that programme will continue to his advantage.

Shane rejoins his Templegoue Swim Club Team mates at the Dave McCullagh meet in Limerick on 28th to 30th March. Best of luck to him.

RECORD breaking FARRELL Does it again with a HATRICK in UK!!!

He may have gone back to the UK but ANDY FARRELL has not forgotten TEAM TSC or his record breaking form since he returned to the UK.

Andy raced last weekend for TEAM TSC in a Masters competition in England and ontinued his record breaking form from 2007. Having now moved to the 30 to 34 Year old age group Andy has set his sights on doing to the records in that age group, what he managed to do in the last 18 months with TEAM TSC in the 25 to 29 yr old age group.

On Saturday I got a text to tell me that he had just broken the 400FC record by some 4 seconds and finished in 4:34.81, outside his PB but a strong record breaking swim. Closely followed by another record in the 200FC, Andy swam 2:08.6 to get inside the record by some 2 seconds and still outside his own personal best. After an early night Andy returned to the pool on Sunday to break the 800FC record by some 13 seconds in a time of 9:36.4, which also outside his own PB shoed that with a hatrick of results and records he is starting 2008 just as he finished 2007 - IN RECORD BREAKING form.

WELL done Andy and lets hope your PB results will continue to move these records to the next level. These are the fastest swims EVER recorded by an IRISH athlete aged 30 to 34 in a MASTER gala anywhere - Great news for the CLUB and ANDY.

Andy returns to Ireland and teams up his fellow IRISH record breakers from 2007 as Brian LEE, Ian THOM and Peter SHERRY launch an attack on the IRISH individual and RELAY records at the IRISH MASTER's championships in LIMERICK in early March. Our lone female competitor is Helen KELLY who will also demonstrate her class as she too tackles some of the womens records in the 30 to 34 year old age bracket (LOL !! - I'm not sure she's that old !!)

Best of luck to ALL our Masters athletes in the next few meets.

Murphy & Clegg Triumph at IRISH Senior Schools Championships

The Results kept coming last weekend as a small team from TEAM TSC travelled to the Irish Schools Championships in Leisureland in Galway on Friday & Saturday with great success.
On the Friday's events on Niamh Murphy, Dayna Clegg & Finbar McTiernan travelled to Galway for Day 1 of the event.

So Friday 1st Feb 2008 is effectively the date that Niamh Murphy successfully won her first International Selection having delivered a new PB and gold medal swim in the 100BS in a time of 1:18.57. This swim means that as an individual event winner Niamh will travel to the W.I.S.E International Schools event on the 15th March. Congrats Niamh on such a great swim and well deserved for continued hard work in training. Niamh's additional swim on the Friday was a 4th place finish in the 200BS with another solid performance (2:53.4)

A great set of swims from Dayna Clegg who, despite being a year younger than her fellow medallists swam to two impressive PB's and two Bronze Medals. The PB's were a 1:10.65 in the 100BC and a superb 5 second PB of 2:33.15 swim in the 200IM to add to her results. That's over 10 seconds off her 200IM since October and is a just reward for Dayna's commitment to developing ALL FOUR of her strokes and continuing to work hard on her skills. It's paying off big time Dayna, so keep it up!!! I know the High School in Rathgar will be very proud of both girls, as we in TEAM TSC are and both girls have continued to work hard and deliver some great training throughout the year so far.

NB - both ladies were back in the water training LC in the NAC on Saturday PM and maintaining their focus on the bigger events in the annual calender. Well done Girls.

Finbar McTiernan took the title of Mr Consistency as his 100BC swim of 1:02.4 in the heats is the same season's best he has been swimming for the last few events and qualified him to swim the final of his age group on Friday. The ultimate finals swim placed him 5th overall in this National event. Well done Finbar.

On Saturday, Daire O'Driscoll & Eoin Mongey travelled to join Niamh Murphy in Galway and swam to some strong results with Eoin's PB in the 100FC being the swim of the day for him. Niamh swam a season's best i the 100FC but was disappointed that she didn't make the final but has next year too in the same age group. Niamh's dedication to training and technique is allowing her continue to hit PB's and seasons best times whilst being unrested and very consistent in performance.

Daire's in the middle of his Mocks so with training being interrupted he swam a strong 100BF in a solid time (1:07.2) but was disappointed with his 100FC (59.91) which is a little outside his best. Nonetheless, Daire, well done for travelling down and getting up on the block and giving it a good go - The swims were strong and PB's will continue to come with the ongoing attention to detail on technique and the further development of training and racing skills EVERY Day.

A small TEAM travelled but brought back one Gold and an International Selection, two bronzes and 4th place finish and 4 PB's from 8 swims. All in all a good weekend.

TEAM TSC has 47 swimmers at Leinster Meet

WHAT's MY TIME - DID I DO ANOTHER TEAM TSC PB???
It was another truly impressive weekend for TEAM TSC as some 47 swimmers from the club competed in the Leinster Distance & Graded Competition in the MAC. A dominant and powerful sea of Red hats was present throughout the day in the NAC on Sunday showing the strength we have in the TEAM (FYI new hats have been ordered so here's an idea of what they will look like)

The day started with a proud moment as TEAM TSC coaches watched Martha O'Donoghue, Ciara Feighan and Ciara Robinson stand on the clock for their first ever 800FC. It's fantastic to think that we have so many athletes enthusiastically looking to swim that event and is a sign of things to come when we have that many athletes interested in and capable of swimming so well. In the next heat we saw an unusual event with Grace Branagan giving Ian Thom a run for his money (ha ha!!) in the second heat of the 800FC which allwed both of them deliver great swims within points of their PB's for the event.

After a strong volume of work over Christmas and the New year it is normal and expected that athletes are tired. Both Parents & Swimmers need to understand that at this time of the year tiredness in training and racing is a GOOD sign that your training is working. (You do need to monitor yourself to ensure you don't get overtired and taking and recording your daily resting heart rate is the best indicator of how your body is reacting to training - talk to Brian or your coach if you do not know how to do this.) You should expect to get close to PB's and continue to post strong performances whilst being tired and there were many examples of PB's and strong swims in a lot of events last weekend. It's critically important that swimmers are racing tired at this time of year and it's normal that swimmers who have been training hard are tired when they race. You have to stand up and race, focus on skills & tactics when in the race, and learn how to get the best from yourself every time. Worldwide at this time, swimmers are working hard, training hard and racing hard and being tough and learning how to get results when they least feel ready to do it. When you are given time to taper and rest in the latter part of this cycle (i.e. for Dave McCullagh & Irish LC Championships) it is at that time when you will see yourself perform at an even faster level as all your hard work pays off.

The need for swimmers to be able to stand up and race tired and get close to best times was shown in spectacular fashion by Brian Feighan as he demolished his PB's (7 seconds on a 200FC to a 2:11., and 48 Seconds on a 1500FC to finish in 18:28) in EVERY swim having been tired and having trained twice on Friday and twice on Saturday as he should have (how many of you who swam PB's last weekend took Friday or Saturday off to rest!!! - There was no need to as you would have swam well anyway !!!). Brian's committment to training is matched too by Ian Thom and Niamh Murphy who also swam close to PB's whilst tired (Ian's 400FC PB is a 4:13.11 and he split 4:13.9 to his feet on the 800FC, Niamh too swam some tough IM and Breastroke swims to post strong medal winning results). Conor O'Keeffe's efforts too were all inside his season's best so far and Conor has one of the best attendences in the squad. Well done to all of you.

For the rest of the team the work was paying off with PB's from the likes of Dylan Farrell who returned to competition having had a few good weeks back in the water since Christmas. also welcome back to Deirdre Murray who raced for the first time this season having used the Christmas period to catch up on some training. After a short illness Eoin Mongey got back to seasons best in his events and as expected our younger age groupers swam to PB's with strong performances from AnneMarie Finn, Alison O'Driscoll, Grace Branagan & Dayna Clegg in the Middle distance and distance events. Dayna Clegg's 100% PB set of swims demolishing her 200FC (2:16.99) & 400IM (5:27 , a PB by over 10 seconds) were the best swims of the day for her. Grace Branagan took over 5 seconds off her 200FC (2:20) and was matched by Alison O'Driscoll's 5 Second PB in the 400FC (5:08) and Anne-Marie went a little better with a 6 second PB on the 400FC (5:04). Michael Gray, Gemma Houlihan, Cian Murphy and Aoife Newe swam too to seasons best times in some of their events and watched on with smiles as Liam O'Neill impressed us all with his 400FC swim producing a "near death" result and a PB for him.

Great too to see Jonah Clegg, Oisin Phelan and Cilian Phelan swim the 400Fc in strong times and big PB's and we all watched as our other TEAM members swam to some excellent times. Jonah too posted a full set of PB swims over the day taking a MASSIVE 81 seconds off his combined swims (averaging 16 seconds in each event) so well done to him. Ciara Feighan knocked some 12 seconds off her 200FC and was matched by her younger brother Eoin and Anastacia Kychigina as they too knocked over 12 seconds off their 100FC and 100BS times respectively. A hugely impressive 9 second PB from Niamh O'Keeffe in the 200FC coupled with other good results across her events proved to be a great day too for Niamh. WEll done !!

The times continued to tumble as throughout the graded event we saw substantial numbers of our athletes get up on the block and post best times. It was great to see Emma Butler and Kate & Niamh Lyons return to competitive action this year with some great results and also a big congrats to Jenny Flaherty on her first competition. (For those of you who do not know, Paula Flaherty, Jenny's mum was a long time National competitor with an impressive set of results under her belt and both Age Group and Senior Nationals - She was one of the best Breastrokers the country had seen back int he good aul days !!!! - oops i'm in trouble). Well done to Jessica & Rebecca Burke, Jason Cosgrave and Maeve Crossan who posted strong results to build up their competition experience. A big well done to Kieran Hayes & Kathy McGrath who swam a number of 100M events and swam PB's across those swims. Joe Fitzpatrick, Oisin O'Neill and Daniel and ELi McGrane-Maher continued to show how much the hard work is paying off as the boys either took seconds off times or raced events they haven't swum before.
Michelle Larkin posted 6 event swims over the day demonstrating her versatility across a range of events and a big well done to her as she was the ONLY club swimmer to race this number of 100M + events. WEll done Michelle for being a tough competitor. Katrin Kychigina too stepped up on the block for the first time this year and like Rachel and Alex McGrane-Maher showed how the girls can keep on racing to best times over a number of events in the day. WEll done girls.
Tiarnan Murphy showed what a promising backstroker he is with an 11 second PB in the 100BC. All we need to do now is get him up early enough to race the Tallaght Gala (Joke Tiarnan!!!) Martha O'Donoghue put in a phenomenal swim in the 200BC to swim a 19 second PB and also to show her brother Luke O'Donoghue how it should be done as he too raced in one of his first ever competitions. Naoise O'Driscoll hepled to continue her improvement this year with three strong PB's and a strong result in 4 swims so a great day for her.
All in all it was a hugely successful day for the TEAM and just reward for all the efforts from the swimmers.
Check out the results section of the TM online on the website to see all the details. The picture above shows just how enthusiastically our Athletes are looking for their NEW PB times!!!
